Phone Intelligence
Available on All PlansGet line type, carrier, and location data with every check.
What It Does
Phone Intelligence provides additional information about every phone number you check, delivered automatically alongside your TPS and CTPS results at no extra cost.
When you check a number, you receive:
- Line Type - Whether the number is mobile, landline, VoIP, premium rate, toll-free, or personal numbering
- Original Carrier - The network operator the number was originally assigned to (e.g., Vodafone, EE, Three, O2, BT)
- Geographic Location - The area associated with landline numbers (e.g., London, Manchester, Birmingham)
- Country Code - Confirmation the number is a valid UK number
This data is derived from official Ofcom numbering allocations, the same authoritative source used for TPS compliance.
Why It Matters
Know Your Contact Method
Mobile and landline numbers require different contact strategies. Mobiles are personal devices often checked throughout the day, while landlines may be shared household or business numbers typically answered during certain hours. Phone Intelligence tells you which you are dealing with before you call.
Identify the Network
Carrier information is valuable for telecoms providers, fraud detection teams, and anyone analysing number patterns. Understanding which network originally issued a number can inform routing decisions and help identify anomalies in your data.
Target Geographically
For landline numbers, Phone Intelligence reveals the geographic area. This enables regional targeting for local campaigns, helps prioritise contacts by territory, and ensures your messaging is relevant to the contact's location.
Spot Problem Numbers Early
Premium rate and toll-free numbers should not appear in typical calling lists. Phone Intelligence flags these number types immediately, helping you identify data quality issues before they become costly mistakes.
Validate Data Quality
When you receive leads from third parties or purchase contact lists, Phone Intelligence helps you assess data quality. Invalid number formats, unexpected number types, or non-UK numbers are surfaced instantly, allowing you to identify problematic data sources.
Data Returned
| Data Point | Description | Availability |

| Original Carrier | The network operator the number was allocated to | All numbers |

Use Cases
Segment Contact Lists by Line Type
Separate your calling lists into mobile and landline segments. This allows you to tailor your approach: SMS follow-ups for mobiles, appointment scheduling around household availability for landlines.
Validate Purchased Lead Lists
Before investing time in a new lead source, check a sample through TPSCheck. Phone Intelligence reveals whether the data contains the number types you expect. A list claiming to be business contacts that returns mostly mobile numbers may warrant further scrutiny.
Geographic Campaign Targeting
For regional promotions or territory-based sales teams, use the location data to filter landline contacts by area. Ensure your North West team receives North West contacts.
Fraud Detection and Risk Assessment
VoIP and personal numbering ranges can indicate disposable or anonymous numbers. Fraud teams use this data to identify potentially suspicious contacts or to flag applications using non-standard number types for additional verification.
Telecoms Research and Analysis
Carriers and telecoms consultants use number intelligence for market analysis, porting trend research, and understanding number allocation patterns across the UK.
Data Cleansing and Hygiene
Identify and remove premium rate numbers, international numbers incorrectly formatted as UK, and other data quality issues from your contact databases.
Important Limitations
Carrier Data Shows Original Allocation
The carrier information reflects the network operator that was originally allocated the number by Ofcom. If a customer has ported their number to a different network, this will not be reflected. For example, a number originally allocated to O2 that has been ported to Vodafone will still show O2 as the carrier.
Location Available for Landlines Only
Mobile numbers in the UK are not geographically assigned. A mobile number does not indicate where the user is located or where they obtained the number. Geographic location data is only available for landline numbers, where the area code indicates a specific region.
Does Not Confirm Number Is Active
Phone Intelligence tells you about the number's allocation and type, but does not verify whether the number is currently in service or reachable. A number may be correctly formatted and allocated to a carrier but disconnected or reassigned.
UK Numbers Only
Phone Intelligence data is derived from Ofcom numbering allocations and applies to UK telephone numbers only.
Included at No Extra Cost
Phone Intelligence is not a premium add-on. Every TPS or CTPS check you perform automatically includes the full Phone Intelligence data set at no additional charge.
Whether you are on the Free tier checking 50 numbers per month or an Enterprise customer processing millions, you receive the same comprehensive phone data with every single check.
Phone Intelligence data is sourced from official Ofcom numbering allocations and updated regularly to reflect the latest number assignments.
