TPS & CTPS Checking

Available on All Plans

Verify phone numbers against the UK's official do-not-call registers.

What It Does

TPS & CTPS Checking verifies phone numbers against the UK's official do-not-call registers:

  • TPS (Telephone Preference Service) - The consumer register where individuals opt out of unsolicited marketing calls
  • CTPS (Corporate Telephone Preference Service) - The business register where organisations opt out of unsolicited sales and marketing calls

When you submit a phone number, TPSCheck.uk returns whether that number is registered on either or both services, along with additional phone intelligence data.

Why It Matters

Regulatory Compliance

UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) require organisations to screen phone numbers against the TPS before making marketing calls. The Corporate TPS must be checked before calling businesses.

Financial Risk

The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) can impose fines of up to £17.5 million or 4% of global turnover for PECR violations (Data Use and Access Act 2025). Beyond fines, non-compliance carries reputational damage and potential loss of business relationships.

The Data Use and Access Act 2025 also expanded PECR's scope to cover attempted communications (not just completed calls) and introduced a charitable marketing exemption under defined conditions. The ICO is expected to publish updated direct marketing guidance in Spring 2026.

Operational Efficiency

Calling registered numbers wastes resources and damages your brand. Checking before you call protects both your budget and your reputation.

How It Works

  1. Submit a phone number - Provide the UK phone number you wish to verify
  2. Instant register check - The system queries the official TPS and CTPS databases
  3. Receive registration status - Get a clear result showing whether the number is registered on TPS, CTPS, both, or neither
  4. Access additional intelligence - Each check also returns:
    • Line type (mobile or landline)
    • Original carrier/network operator
    • Geographic location (for landlines)

Use Cases

Telemarketing Compliance

Screen your calling lists before campaigns to ensure every number is safe to contact, protecting your organisation from regulatory action.

Lead Validation

Verify inbound leads as part of your qualification process. Understand whether you can legally make outbound marketing calls to prospects.

Call Centre Operations

Integrate compliance checking into your dialler workflow to automatically filter registered numbers before they reach agents.

Data Cleansing

Clean existing customer and prospect databases to identify which contacts can receive marketing calls and which cannot.

Due Diligence

When acquiring marketing lists or customer databases, verify compliance status before making any investment.

Important Limitations

  • Registration status only - This service confirms whether a number is registered on TPS/CTPS. It does not verify consent or establish a legal basis to call.
  • Not a substitute for consent - Even if a number is not registered, you may still need explicit consent depending on your relationship with the contact and the nature of your communication.
  • 28-day validity - ICO guidance recommends screening at least every 28 days. Regular re-checking is recommended for ongoing campaigns.
  • UK numbers only - TPS and CTPS are UK-specific registers. This feature applies to UK telephone numbers.
